Grace of
Shiva - Vishnu - Lion's Gate Activated

2023 brought us the most potential opportunity for spiritual growth and ascension.

This year Shravan Month and Purushottam Maas are coinciding creating immense energies of HariHara (fusion of Lord Vishnu & Lord Shiva). We will get 8 Mondays to offer prayers to Lord Shiva which is a rare event, usually we get 4 Mondays in a typical Shravan month.

Cherry on the top is Lions Gate Portal coinciding during this phase!

The time each year, Sun conjuncts with Sirius at 14 degrees in Cancer, close to July 4th and its influence reaches peak on 8th August (08/08). This is the time when a sacred gateway of energy is activated bringing heightened vibrations and spiritual advancements.

Sun enters Leo during this time according to the zodiac. Leo, is represented as the child of Sun, filled with pride, sense of purpose, generosity, and an enduring passion, thus this time is called, Lion’s Gate Portal.

Let us explore the powers of each week!

What is
Shravan Month?

Hindu months are named based on the lunar calendar system, which is known as the "Purnimanta" calendar. The Hindu calendar follows a lunisolar system, which means that the months are based on the phases of the moon as well as the position of the sun.

They are named after the Nakshatra Moon falls in the particular month, for eg If Moon is in Chithra nakshatra, it is called Chaitra month. When the Moon falls in Shravan nakshatra it is known as Shravan month. Important thing here to notice is that each month carries the characteristics of that nakshatra. And each Nakshatra has a presiding Deity.

Deity for Shravan month is Lord Shiva. During this time energies of transformation rises. Worshipping Shiva during this time is highly auspicious. Shiva is the biggest Philanthropist! He gives away everything to His devotees without much effort. He is the most compassionate and benevolent one!

During Shravan month, collective energy of Universe increases the perception of hearing (also known as Shravan, श्रवण in hindi).

That is why, during this whole month people conduct lots of satsang and holy activities where people get benefitted by listening to vedic scriptures and Puranas. Science also supports this concept of increased hearing perception, as we know sound travels faster in moist air than dry. No wonder Shravan month falls in monsoon season where moisture content is much higher than the rest of the year.

There are many reasons to pray to Lord Shiva during this season —

  1. Most importantly, just 4 days before Shravan month starts on Devshayani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu goes to sleep for 4 months (this period is known as Chaturmaas). During this tenure, when the Preserver is sleeping, Lord Shiva becomes the caretaker of the Universe.
  2. Lord Shiva is considered to be very easily pleased as He is very compassionate and benevolent. People especially pray to Lord Shiva to get His blessings during this period as He becomes the supreme authority.
  3. During this month, Mata Parvati started strict penance to please Lord Shiva to marry Her. He was happy with Her sadhana and they got married eventually.
  4. During this month, Samudra Manthan (Churning of the Ocean) happened. When poison came out of the Ocean, it threatened life on Earth. For everyone’s benefit, Shiva voluntarily consumed poison and Mata Parvati held that in His neck. Hence the name Neel Kanth (नीलकंठ).

After consuming poison, Shiva's body was heated up so much that all Devi-Devtas poured Ganga jal, milk, honey, sandalwood, bel patra and curd. No wonder, all these things are cooling in nature. Bel patra has many medicinal and healing properties. The leaves are antibacterial, and anti fungal in nature. Bel patra has trifoliate shape which signifies all three 'gunas' (Sattva, Rajas and Tamas). Centre portion of the leaf is concentrated with the perfect balance of the three.

Next time when you offer these things to Lord Shiva, please remember His love and compassion for all living beings. Honouring Him will give you strength to be compassionate for fellow living beings.

Fasting during this month, especially on Mondays, is considered auspicious. Mondays are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Fasting gives us inner strength to gain control of our senses as well as it purifies the body. Fasting has been scientifically proven to remove toxins from our body and improve vitality.

Shravan falls in monsoon season, when microbes are most activated, hence eating mindfully and sattvik food helps keep the body clean and healthy too!

What is
Adhik Maas?

Adhik Maas, also known as Purushottam Maas, is an additional lunar month that occurs once every two to three years in the Hindu calendar. Unlike the regular months, Adhik Maas does not correspond to a specific zodiac sign and does not have any specific deity assigned.

This month is ruled by Lord Vishnu, hence has energies and grace of Narayan. It is considered a time of immense spiritual importance, offering a chance for devotees to engage in acts of devotion, charity, and self-improvement.

असंक्रान्तिमासोअधिमासाः स्फुटः स्याद द्विसंक्रान्तिमासः क्ष्याख्यः कदाचित||

Meaning: The month that does not carry Surya Sankranti is called Adhik maasa and the month carrying two Sankrantis is called Kshayamass.

Fasting during this period is equivalent to performing a hundred yagnas, which acts as a path to attainment of complete bliss, delight and peace.

Astrological Remedies performed to rectify any graha dosh in Purushottam masa multiplies the good result by ten times.

Deep Daan, Lighting diya or “Akhanda Jyoti” is very auspicious during this time.

Engage in acts of self-discipline, fasting, and giving to the needy.

Overall, Adhik Maas is regarded as an opportunity for spiritual introspection, discipline, and devotion. It provides us with a chance to deepen our connection with the divine and enhance our spiritual practices.

As we immerse ourselves in the auspicious energies of Adhik Maas, let us embrace the hidden opportunities it presents. Let's use this sacred month to ignite personal growth, deepen our spiritual connection, and make a positive impact on the world around us. May this extraordinary month empower us to unlock our full potential, both personally and professionally.

Wishing you all a blessed and transformative Adhik Maas!

This year is special because Adhik maas is lying in between Shravan month, extending the benefits of Shravan month for 8 weeks which is a very rare phenomenon. Last time 18 years ago this rare event was observed.

With Adhik maas in Shravan month, energies of both Shiva and Vishnu are getting activated on 18th July. It will initiate HariHara energies between 18th July to 16th August 2023.

HariHara is the fusion of Lord Vishnu (Hari) and Lord Shiva (Hara), also known as Rudranarayan, Shambhuvishnu and Shankarnarayan.

Praying to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva is auspicious during this time. Listening/chanting Vishnu Shahstranaam will bring peace and good health. Rudraabhishek during this Shravan will fulfil desires and remove ill effects of planetary positions.

Shiva is embodiment of dispassion and detachment, and Ganga flowing demonstrates His willingness to accept and channel the powerful spiritual force of Ganga without being affected by it.

It is believed that Ganges originates from Heaven and descends on Earth through Shiva’s locks, symbolically bridging between the celestial and the earthly realms emphasising the interconnectedness of all existence.
